Tire pressure is the primary tuning element of a mounted tire. Normal daily driving only requires the inflation pressures to be set so the tire wears evenly across the sides and the center. Race car tire pressures take a much different tire pressure tuning strategy as the air pressure is used to control the heat and rolling resistance more then the wear alone. High tech electronic air pressure gauges are standard tools in the race car tuner's toolbox as are tire temperature measurement tools.
